The Acting Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon Mercy Bassey has disclosed that everything her administration has achieved so far is solely funded with the allocation accrued to the local government.
Hon Bassey, who made the disclosure during an interview session with ace broadcaster, Michael Bush on XL 106.9 FM, Thursday evening, said her administration ensures that resources accrued to the local government are judiciously spent.
She stated that the local government does not have another source of revenue that can generate the kind of funds required for the developments undertaken by her administration within the last eight months.
“Everything we have done in Mkpat Enin so far is funded with the allocation that comes to the local government. My father does not have a farm where I can go and generate money because he is late.
“In Mkpat Enin, we have the understanding that service is about sacrifice so collectively, we deny ourselves some privileges that come with the office so we can provide certain things for the people.
“The needs of the local government are many but we are taking them in bits and attending to them one at a time,” she said.
The local government boss further noted that her administration’s efforts were inspired by Governor Udom Emmanuel’s developmental strides in the state despite plethora of challenges.
She said that Akwa Ibom was among the states in country faring better because of the governor’s visionary leadership, adding that the state was enjoying the benefits of belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on the 2023 general elections, Hon Bassey assured that the PDP was going win convincing in Mkpat Enin in all the elections, predicting that the party will record the same feat in the state and country.
