By Emmanuel Ufon

As Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Center on Friday 12 December, 2023 concluded the training of entrepreneurs and presentation of certificate to participants in Akwa Ibom State under
the Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme (EAP) for Batch 1A,
sponsored by Gov Umo Eno, the Uyo Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (UYOCCIMA) has expressed gratitude to Gov. Umo Eno and his innovative team for impacting on Entrepreneurship mindset.

This was even as the organization commended the Governor on the just concluded 2024 budget presentation to Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, while calling on him to set up a database of businesses operating in the state to assist entrepreneurs and realize revenue target.

The President of UYOCCIMA, Mrs. Affiong Ibangha, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Shipping (FCIS) made this known while addressing Journalists at a public function on Sunday.

According to her, “Words cannot express our gratitude, we pray for God’s guidance upon your administration as you continue the journey”

Mrs. Israel Ibanga who is also a member of advisory board USA-Nigeria Trade Council, United States of America said database registration for businesses, digitalising the tax processes, making the payment process seamless and simple, and building trust amongst residents in the state would go a long way to help the government generate internal revenue.

“Currently, Akwa Ibom State has three chambers – Uyo Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (UYOCCIMA) Ikot Ekpene Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (IKCCIMA) Eket Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture that the government can and should partner with to build a database of businesses.

The government should encourage businesses to register with the chambers where they are located and offer tax breaks or other forms of incentives or support to businesses who achieve clear and identified tax goals.”
