Uyo Local Government Council is set to collaborate with donor agencies towards the development of the local government area.
This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman Dr. Uwemedimo Udo when he recently led some officials of Uyo Local Government Council on a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Multilateral and Donor Agencies, Mr. Ndiana-Abasi Udom in his office.
The Chairman, in his speech reiterated his commitment to deliver on his campaign promises to the people of Uyo.
“When we were doing the campaign, we had areas of interest. We told our people that we have interest to intervene in human capacity development, agriculture, health, rural development and education. We will not be able to do this alone.
“We are aware of the dwindling financial fortunes of the local government councils from Federation Account Allocation Committee, so the council has to evolve alternative means of funding projects and achieving all that we told our people we are going to do, hence the need for this partnership to enable us get the support of donor agencies and development partners within and outside Nigeria.

“Since we know that you are the melting point of all the donor agencies that Akwa Ibom is involved in, we thought it wise as a council to come to you and ask that you partner with us in those areas that we have mentioned so that we will be able to deliver on our mandate to the people”.
Dr Udo expressed the readiness of Uyo Local Government Council to provide counterpart funding where necessary for the actualisation of the listed projects, noting that his administration is determined to change the narrative in Uyo local government area.
In his response, the SSA on Multilateral and Donor Agencies, Mr. Ndiana-Abasi Udom assured the council of his agency’s commitment to ensure that Uyo is given priority in various developmental projects in the areas of healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene, rural development, electricity and trainings for local government staff.
“We will partner with you on all aspects and we will recommend Uyo local government staff for trainings to achieve productivity. I want to assure you Mr. Chairman that now that you have come, we will, as an agency of government draw up activities and plan and we will ensure that we increase the number of beneficiaries of these activities for Uyo local government because of the fact that you play host to all of us”.
The visit had in attendance the Vice Chairman of Council, Pst. Sylvia Ekong, Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Ubong Effiong and other councillors as well as the Director of International Co-operation of the Agency, Dr. Uduak William.
