To protect and safeguard the properties of Uyo Local Government Area, members of the 7th Uyo Legislative Council have summoned the management of Divine Favour Company over an alleged breach of contract by leasing the Council’s property to a third party without the knowledge of the Council.

The representatives of Divine Favour Company, Mr. Michael Samuel Bassey and Dr. Barine Lenee appeared before the Legislators on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, during the day’s plenary at the Legislative Chamber of Uyo Local Government Council.

The Leader of the Legislature, Hon. Ubong Effiong while setting the tone during the hearing said the people were invited to answer questions bothering on the construction of a permanent building by a newly established recreational center called “Bae Arena” located along Ikot Ekpene road, on a property that is owned by Uyo Local Government without the knowledge of the Legislature.

Also invited to give insight on the matter were the Supervisor for Works. Hon. Linus Effiong, and the Director for Works. Arc. Emmanuel Ekoh.
However, those who appeared could not brief the Lawmakers on the true state of affairs at the facility on the grounds that they did not come with relevant documents. Therefore, they were requested by the Councillors to make available copies of the tenancy agreement between Uyo Local Government and Divine Favour Company, receipt of payment, and any other document associated with the leasing of the property in the next Legislative setting.
Meanwhile, the 7th Legislative Council in Uyo Local Government Area has embarked on a one-month recess to enable the lawmakers to visit their wards for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Leader of the Legislature, Hon. Ubong Effiong who made the announcement during Wednesday’s plenary congratulated his colleagues on their commitment and sacrifice towards the legislative duties.

He reiterated that the 7th Council would continue to prioritize matters that concern the people of Uyo to satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of the people while assuring all and sundry of a more vibrant representation and the enactment of bills that would enhance the standard of living in the state capital.

The sitting was attended by the Deputy Leader, Hon. Mmeyenabasi Michael, the House Leader, Hon. Akaninyene Eyo and the Deputy House Leader, Hon. Emem Uduak.
Others include; the Chief Whip, Hon. Emeti Aniekan, Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Hillary Udi, Hon. Nsikak Essien, Hon. Stella Archibong, Hon. Christiana Effiong, Hon. Mkpoikana Dominic, Hon. Raphael Akpan, Hon. Praise Bassey, Hon. Obong Williams and Hon. Overflow Franky.
