As part of efforts to support free and compulsory education in Akwa Ibom State, the Supervisor for Education and Manpower Development, Uyo Local Government Council, Comrade Ekemini Bassey on Monday, October 24, 2022, took the distribution of free writing materials to public primary school pupils in Oku Clan.
The benefitting schools were QIC Group School, Ikot Oku, and St. Joseph Primary School, Afaha Oku in Uyo Local Government Area.
Speaking during the presentation, Comrade Bassey told the students that the distribution of the writing materials is meant to reduce the burden on their parents in procuring writing materials for them.
He assured the students that the Executive Chairman of Uyo, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo is committed to bringing more interventions to the education sector.
The Education Supervisor also commended the teachers for living up to their responsibility in grooming the pupils, and also redeemed the Council’s pledges during their last Inter-House Sports Competition.
In their responses, the Head Teacher of QIC Group School, Ikot Oku, Mrs. Ofonime Essien, and her counterpart at St. Joseph Primary School, Afaha Oku, Mrs. Margaret Ukpongette who were full of appreciation to the Uyo Council Chairman and the Supervisor thanked them for the support, noting that the parents will equally appreciate the Council’s gesture.
The Education Supervisor was accompanied on the visit by the Director for Social Development, Education, Information, Sports and Culture, Mrs. Eme Jimmy with the staff of the Directorate, Supervisor for Youth and Sport, Mr. Marshall Effiong, Supervisor for Special Duties, Mr. Anietie Sam, Secretary Local Education Authority, Mr. Umoh Umoh, Chairperson, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Uyo Chapter, Mrs. Imaobong Udo, as well as student leaders from Uyo LGA.
