…as Akwa Ibom’s First Lady Commissions Ultramodern Primary Health Facility, Water Project in Ikot Ebido Oku
In a resounding endorsement of local governance initiatives, Akwa Ibom’s First Lady, Her Excellency Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno has lauded the impactful efforts of Uyo Council Chairman, Dr Uwemedimo Udo. The commendation comes in recognition of Dr Udo’s dedication to transformative and people-oriented projects within Uyo Local Government Area.
Speaking recently at the commissioning of a well-equipped ultramodern primary health centre and a mini water scheme in Ikot Ebido Oku community in Uyo LGA, the Governor’s wife commended the chairman for not only fulfilling the promise he made to the people during the last electioneering period but for also interpreting the vision of Governor Umo Eno in health care delivery, which is a component of the ARISE Agenda.
Pastor Patience Eno noted that Dr. Uwemedimo Udo has been exceptional in his style of leadership by putting the people first before his personal interests.
In her words; “not many Chairmen use the Local Government’s resources to execute life-touching projects for the benefit of the people. Today, Dr. Uwemedimo has shown that he is a different breed of Chairman. God bless you.”
While advising the workers at the health facility to discharge their duties professionally, the Governor’s Wife equally urged the people of the beneficiary community to guard the projects against vandalism.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, noted that the building of the ultra-modern Primary Health Center and Mini-water scheme was borne out of robust citizen participation in governance and the determination of his administration to meet the yearnings of the people.
Dr. Udo said acting as an agent of the ARISE Agenda, he has contributed to the realisation of the vision by building and equipping the health facility while also investing in the provision of water, in line with the requirements of the water, sanitation, and hygiene – WASH programme of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals within the space of six months.
He appreciated the people of Uyo for donating the land used for the project and thanked those who contributed to the realisation of the vision, specially thanked the Governor’s wife for gracing the occasion.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service Commission, Rt Hon Monday Eyoh, Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Hon Anietie Ekah, Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor, Rt Hon Otuekong Ekerette Ekpenyong, the Commissioner for Health, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Patrick Essiet and the Paramount Ruler of Uyo Local Government, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Okon, expressed their gratitude to Her Excellency Pastor Patience Umo Eno for finding time to commission the projects.
While expressing their admiration for the Chairman and describing him as the pride of the people of Uyo Local Government, the stakeholders collectively thanked Dr. Uwemedimo Udo for meeting the aspirations of the people of the area. They also thanked the Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno for his outstanding contributions to the progress and development of Uyo Local Government Area.
Residents of Uyo who are beneficiaries of the projects also voiced their support for the Chairman’s initiatives, citing the positive impact on their daily lives.
The event featured the presentation of gifts to the Governor and his wife by the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council. An Award of Excellence was also presented to the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in recognition of his outstanding disposition towards workers’ welfare and for providing infrastructural development in Uyo Local Government Area.
It is worthy of note that the facility comes fitted with maternity and general wards, a pharmacy, a laboratory, a family planning unit, a surgery room, examination and delivery couches, a solar power supply, and a mini water project, among others.
