UYO CHAIRMAN’S WIFE EMPOWERS GIRLS AT MBAK ETOI COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOL ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD

In commemoration of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, Mrs. Akaninyene Uwemedimo Udo, the wife of the Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government, graced Community Secondary School, Mbak Etoi, Uyo, with her presence to celebrate this important day with the female students.

Mrs. Udo in her remarks expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Council Chairman, Dr Uwemedimo Udo for his unwavering commitment to empowering and protecting the girls of Uyo Local Government against various forms of abuse. She shared inspiring words of encouragement with the students, emphasising the importance of believing in their rights and striving for excellence in all their endeavours.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being,” was further illuminated by Dr. Victoria Nkan, who delved into the uniqueness, well-being, and rights of the girl child. She urged the girls to become advocates for the rights of every girl child.

The wife of the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Mrs. Joyful Uwem Eyo, who is a seasoned behavioural consultant passionately addressed the leadership opportunities available to young girls in the tech-savvy era. She encouraged the students to prioritise computer literacy, stressing the importance of attending computer classes as the foundation for future digital prowess.

Earlier in her welcome address, The Principal of the school, Mrs. Elizabeth Aaron, expressed deep gratitude to Mrs. Akaninyene Uwemedimo Udo for honouring the outstanding female students of Community Secondary School, Mbak Etoi. She also appealed for greater support for the school’s promising students.

During the visit, the State Health Promotion Officer, Mrs. Nsidibe Ita, and Dr. Godwin John Ebuk, a consultant with the Clinton Health Access Initiative, provided vital information on cervical cancer awareness to the students.

Mrs. Uche John Etim, the wife of the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, delivered a goodwill message, and the event’s climax was marked by the generous donation of various self-care items.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the House Committee on Women and Social Welfare in the Uyo Legislative Council, Hon. (Mrs.) Praise Otuekong, the PDP Woman Leader, Mrs. Christiana Effiong, Supervisor for Health, Mrs. Veronica Effiong, the Director of the SDEISC Department, Mrs. Mfreke Okpon, the Women Development Officer, Mrs. Enobong Akang, as well as teachers and other esteemed guests.
