The University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association, Akwa Ibom State Chapter has set in motion plans to contribute her quota to the development of Akwa Ibom State through research and development. This position was made known yesterday after a public lecture organized by the Alumni Association in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital. The lecture, with the theme “Research and Development: The Role of Alumni Associations”, was delivered by an erudite scholar, reseacher and alumnus of Uniport – Dr. Ekemini Ituen. The lecture was organized to unraveled potentials and untapped areas of development in the State and give clear direction on immediate steps to take for speedy development of various sectors of the State.
The State President – Comrade Chris Udi disclosed that the lecture was to prepare ground for the plans of the Association to invest in research and development as a panacea to sustainable development of the State and Country. He stated that the Alumni Association with high crop of intellectuals and researchers have a major role to play in the area of professing analytical solutions to development programmes of government and citizens adding that the University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association has decided to take the lead.
Highlights of the event included the official decoration of the paper presenter – Dr Ituen with the Alumni brooch, consideration of Committee Reports, Registration of new members, issuance of membership card, exchange of pleasantries and group photographs.
