The newly sworn-in Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep seaport in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Bassey Okon, on Monday resumed duty at his office, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.
Dr Okon was received in a warm reception ceremony organised by staff of the ministry, who took turns to expressed their happiness for his re-assignment back to the ministry.
In his speech, the permanent secretary in the ministry, Engr. Udosen Ephraim, appreciated the executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno for reappointing and reposting Dr. Bassey Okon as commissioner back to the ministry.
Engr. Udosen noted that, considering the complexity of the Ministry of Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Engr. Bassey Okon reappointment would safe the management staff of the ministry, the stress of extra work in briefing the new Commissioner on the affairs of the ministry.
He added that Dr Okon’s return would aide the completion of projects which were initiated during his former tenure as commissioner in the ministry.
Engr. Udosen Udosen who welcomed the commissioner on behalf of the staff of the ministry, pledging total support of the staff to his tenure, also emphasized that they were ready to support the administration of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno to succeed.
Head of administration, Prince Okon Abia, who described the reappointed commissioner as a workaholic, reiterated the readiness of the staff to work harder for more results.
Responding, the commissioner, Dr. Bassey Okon thanked the permanent secretary, management team, and the entire staff of the ministry for organising such a colourful reception to welcome him back to the ministry.
Dr. Bassey Okon noted that his achievements in his first tenure as commissioner in the ministry, was made possible by the collective efforts and cooperation of the staff of the ministry.
He solicited more cooperation from the staff for more achievements and results, in line with the A.R.I.S.E. Agenda of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno.
His words, “I am here for the second time. During the first time, I came with the Dakada mandate and Completion Agenda. I thank God we were able to achieve great results together.
“In this second coming, I am here with the A.R.I.S.E. Agenda and I am certain that, God’s willing and with us working together, we will be able to deliver”, he added.
Dr Okon further explained the concept of A.R.I.S.E. Agenda of the current administration, saying it seeks to address the five points programme of His Excellency, Pastor Umoh Eno’s administration, bothering on Agricultural Revolution, Rural Development, Infrastructural Maintenance/Advancement, Security Management and Educational Advancement.
He charged every staff in the ministry to put in their best to actualize the ministry’s mandate, which according to him, is hinched on infrastructural development and maintenance.
He stressed his resolve to reward best staff in the ministry, through the initiative of “performance reward scheme”, to encourage outstanding staff.
Dr. Okon harped on the need for staff of the ministry to adequately utalize their work time and play down on unnecessary discussions during official hours and pray God to uphold and sustain the vision of the ministry.
Other management staff who paid glowing tributes on the commissioner were, Director of Engineering Services, Engr. Ime Akpan; Chairman of Labour Union, Comrade Uwem Edet; Director of Accounting, Mr. Emmanuel Essien; as well as Head of Planning, Research and Statistics, Arc. Ekanwan Alale who rendered the opening prayer.
