The Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Education Monitoring Akparawa Udeme Udofia has called on teachers to begin full academic activities immediately across all schools in the state.
Udofia made the plead in the early hours of Monday, April 25th 2022, while welcoming the students, teaching, non-teaching staff and school administrators back to school for another academic term, during his tour to schools in Eket Local government area.
Udofia while addressing teachers at Government Technical school , Effoi, Eket decried low turnout of both teachers and students, said such attitude is detrimental to the efforts of state government to reposition the educational status in the state, informed that the government are always ready to support and provides resources for learning to thrive. The SA wondered why ,in a school with Twenty seven staff strength only thirteen were present in school ,while the only student found in school at the time of visit was appreciated with cash reward.
At Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Use Ekong, where Udofia met teachers not engaging the students that come to school,he frowned seriously at this attitude and urged them to show commitment from the first day of resumption as this will encourage students/ guardians to reciprocate their commitment and efforts. He concluded that the rise in school cultism is as a result of some teachers inability to engage the students actively while in school.
He said as teachers, they should strive to impact positively on the lives of their students, which he said would bring about fulfillment in their careers as teachers, and help their students become better citizen in the future.
