On Tuesday, 19th September 2023, twenty persons drawn across Akwa Ibom State were economically empowered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital through The Eunice Thomas Entrepreneurial and Empowerment Scheme.
The Scheme, an offshoot of The Global Womanity Initiative, is a passion-driven, apolitical and private project of its founder, Mrs. Eunice Thomas.
It targets and focuses mainly on visibly less-advantaged people living in the rural communities of Akwa Ibom State with the goal to sustainably improve their economic life, build their self-esteem, and make them continually self-reliant.
The twenty beneficiaries who are natives of Onna, Etinan, Ika, Etim Ekpo, Oruk Anam, and Eket Local Government Areas included young persons, women, as well as men β and were randomly selected.
Items given which were based on need-request of the beneficiaries were palm oil-milling machines, cassava milling machines and corn milling machines.
Prospective beneficiaries are selected in batches after their needs assessment have been concluded.
The vision and goal of the founder is to build a strong economic community of at least 2000 self-sufficient people in the interiors and hinterlands every two years.
