The Executive Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Hon. Nyakno Uwemedimo Okoibu in complementing the efforts of the Akwa Ibom State Government on coconut cultivation and production, yesterday, 18th September, 2021 flagged off the Akwa Ibom Coconut day celebration in Ikono Local Government Area.

According to the council boss, the construction of the ongoing St. Gabriel coconut oil factory will require about one Million coconut seeds per day(1,000,000seeds/day) making it very lucrative for investment.
He placed a call on all indigenes of Ikono Local Government Area to tap into this high revenue generating agricultural venture by engaging in its cultivation.Coconuts have been grown in tropical regions for more than 4,500 years but recently increased in popularity for their flavor, culinary uses, and potential health benefits.

From available researches, coconuts are proven to be highly nutritious, benefit hearts health, promote blood sugar control, contains powerful antioxidants and easy to add to our diets.
Additionally, coconut oil is a delicious heat-stable fat that can be used in baking, sautéing, or roasting. These amazing benefits amongst others distinguishes coconut from many other fruits.

The event also witnessed the inaugural planting of coconut by the Ikono Council boss, Hon. Nyakno Okoibu; the newly Crowned Paramount Ruler of Ikono HRH Edidem Etime Nana Itang,the immediate past Chairman of Ikono, Hon. Itoro Columba, Leader of the legislatures, Hon. Nsikak Ntok; other stakeholders in Ikono across the political, religious and traditional class.
