NUJ To Partner Udom National Under 17 tournament

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, have throw their weight in support of the under 17  National Championship slated for September 14th to 22nd 2019. The chairman of the union comrade Amos Etuk stated this on Monday when members of Local Organising Committee of the tournament paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the press centre.

Etuk express his readiness and commitment in supporting  the third edition of the tournament and sports development in the state especially now that the state is recording more success stories in sports, explaining that his administration will  give top priority to Sports  having seen giant stride of Governor, Udom Emmanuel in sports development while describing GRASOF as an engine room for grassroots sports.

The number one journalist in the state who is also a sports journalist noted that the tournament was laudable, adding that the competition will help in discovery talents in Akwa Ibom State as well as makes it a known name in grassroots sports development. In his words , “We will work in partnership. We will ensure a lot of publicity is given to the tournament.”

In his remarks, the Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC), Prince Iboro Udom said the championship which is tagged “victory tournament”, is open for registration for teams from the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State and 36 state across the federation.

The LOC chairman disclosed that a lot of prizes to be won as well as individuals prizes. Prince Iboro Udom said the tournament is organised by Grassroots Sports Federation (GRASOF).

According to him, “We have had two successful editions of this tournament. We are ready for the third edition. Teams from more than 20 States have indicated interest in the tournament.”

Prince Udom maintained that prizes to be won are #2 million for the winner, #1.5 million for the runners up and #1 million for the third place team. He said registration fee for the tournament is #50 thousand naira only. Udom also disclosed that free accommodations would be provided for participating teams outside Akwa Ibom State and that the tournament will take place in four centres in the state, use the occasion to present tournament jerseys to the chairman and his executive.

Those present at the courtesy call were: Comrade John Ekpenyong, tournament Coordinator, Mr. Boniface Emmanuel, LOC secretary, Emmanuel Akpan, director of media and publicity who also doubles as state secretary of SWAN Akwa Ibom state among others.
