The Chairman, Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, received in audience, participants of Executive Intelligence Management Course 16 of the National Institute for Security Studies, NISS, Abuja led by Mr. Godwin Ometu, who are on a study tour of Akwa Ibom State.
The theme for Course 16 participants is “Globalisation and Regional Economic Integration: Implications for Sustainable Development in Africa.”
Brainstorming on the theme with the participants, the Chairman identified certain factors that hinder the achievement of globalisation in Nigeria to include insecurity, devaluation of the currency, double digits inflation and high unemployment figures, etc.
Dr. Udo noted that for Africa to attain sustainable development the factors identified earlier among others need to be addressed by the leaders.
According to him “we can not talk about globalisation without talking about sincere leadership, thus, Nigeria must develop policies that will encourage peaceful coexistence among Nigerians because one of the things that will promote globalisation is peace, and this the Udom Emmanuel-led administration in Akwa Ibom State has strived to achieve.”
Earlier, the leader of the team, Mr. Godwin Ometu said the participants were in Akwa Ibom State on a study tour to share knowledge with government officials and other stakeholders.
He appreciated the Chairman and other officials of the Council for the reception accorded to them and declared that materials gotten from the tour would go a long way to enhance the participant’s knowledge about the State and provide adequate details for presentation when they return to the Institute.
The National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja is a top management security outfit that trains cadre from federal and state governments. The current set has students from Chad, Gabon, Niger, and Rwanda.
Present during the visit to the Chairman was the Leader of the 7th Legislative Council, Hon. Ubong Effiong, the Secretary of Council, Mr. Ubong Udofia, the Dean, College of Supervisors, Mr. Linus Effiong, and the Head of Local Government Service, Mrs. Imaobong Antai.
