The first year in office anniversary of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) Uyo Chapter led by the President, Princess Ekaette Nyong was held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, amid pomp and pageantry.
The women of Uyo Local Government Area gathered at the Council hall to empower some women and celebrate themselves as part of ceremonies for the anniversary celebration.
At the event with the theme “Arise and Show Love”, the women were charged in a talk by the Wife of the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Mrs. Uwem Joyful Eyo to show love to themselves which will be easily extended to others.
Above all, they were encouraged to be enterprising in any little way they could to be able to sustain themselves and their families.
In her remarks, the Wife of the Chairman, Uyo Local Government, Mrs. Akaninyene Uwemedimo, who hosted the event, appreciated the Council Chairman, Dr Uwemedimo Udo for his constant support to the women of Uyo and also praised the wife of the Executive Governor, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno for her love for the women of Uyo and her huge support for the empowerment programme.
Goodwill messages were received from the Wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Inemesit Uwah, and the State President of NCWS, Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Idongesit Okoko.
Notable attendees at the ceremony were the Vice Chairman, Uyo Local Government, Pastor Sylvia Ekong, Councillors led by the Leader of the 7th Legislative Council, Hon. Ubong Effiong, Obonganwan Mfon Udokpo, amongst others.
The high point of the occasion was the distribution of exercise books to pupils in Holy Child Convent Primary School Uyo, disbursement of empowerment funds to some benefiting women, presentation of gifts, and cutting of the anniversary cake.
