The member representing the good people of Ikono/Ini in the federal house of representatives Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong Udo has commended the state government for their plans in infrastructural development in the Area. The federal lawmaker said this following the directive of the State Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, through Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs, Governor’s Office, for an inspection tour of the perennially deplorable Uyo Afaha Nkan – Urua Naira – Ikot Nseyen – Ibiaku Ntok Okpo Road and two dilapidated schools in Ikono Local Government Area, penned down for construction and rehabilitation.

According to the leader of the delegation, Dr. Unwana Oscar (who stood in for the Special Adviser on Political and Legislative Affairs, Pastor Hon. Sunny Ibuot) the problem areas were brought before the Governor by the member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Obong) Ukpong-udo, and that the inspection was necessary to ascertain the state of affairs.
Dr. Oscar bemoaned the condition of the long stretch of road, which cuts across eight wards, stressing that as a major economic road, it deserved urgent attention. He lauded Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo for his determination to ameliorate the plight of his people as expressed by the series of communications to the Governor soliciting for urgent intervention. He also restated the resolve of the Governor to provide succour in no distant time.

The team proceeded to inspect Comprehensive Secondary School, Ndiya, and Lutheran Senior Science Secondary School, Ibakachi, Ukpom both founded in the 80s in Ikono LGA. They were met in both schools by very dilapidated structures, some of which had caved in from years of neglect. Dr. Oscar described the situation as very pathetic and wondered how academic activities were carried out in such an unfavourable environment. He again commended Hon. Ukpong-udo for drawing the attention of government to the state of these schools and expressed optimism in his capacity to turn around the fortunes of those institutions in collaboration with the state government.

Furthermore, Dr Oscar noted that as the cradle of Ibibio civilization, Ikono deserved to be at the front burner of development, stating that it was necessary to declare a state of emergency in schools such as those visited, as education was top of the agenda of the Gov. Udom Emmanuel Administration and critical to the development of any clime.
The Federal Lawmaker who was represented by his Special Assistant on Special Duties, Hon. Victor Akang thanked the Governor for clearly showing his intention to bring more dividends of good governance to Ikono Local Government Area. He appreciated the team from the bureau of political and Legislative Affairs for the prompt action on the directive of the Governor. Hon Akang lauded his Boss, Hon. Ukpong-udo for his passion for result-oriented representation stressing that he was in government to change the narrative of the constituency for good.
One common thing associated with the duo , Governor Udom Emmanuel and Hon. (Obong) Emmanuel Ukpong-udo is their sincerity of purpose, genuine concern for the people and the political will to positively change the governance and development narrative.
