Former Speaker of the Nigeria Youth Parliament and current Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon (Barr.) Onofiok Luke, addressing the 2nd sitting of the Nigeria Youth Parliament now in Room 231 Senate Wing of the National Assembly.
Below are excerpts of his remarks in the presence of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; Speaker Yakubu Dogara; Femi Gbajabiamila, and other top officers of Nigeria’s National Assembly.
*I salute and appreciate late President Yar’ Adua who founded the NYP.
*I came to the Youth Parliament because I needed a platform to speak against certain societal anomalies. I would never have thought that the experience garnered then would galvanize me into Speaking for a State Legislature.
*We must think less of our personal enclave since we don’t have another country EXCEPT Nigeria*
*I love Nigeria, hence i can’t stay out of the country… there’s nothing that can be offered me outside that we can’t get here.
*I want to urge you to erase the ethoreligious lines that continue to divide you.
*I may be of the political class, but I strongly believe that the time has come for the people to ask public officers to use their position to deliver services to the people who voted them into that office
*Please,my generation, let us begin to demand for accountability, and the interest of the people
*I urge you to seek earnestly for self-development; get education beyond your primary course of study.
