Gov Udom’s Aide decries poor attitude to work by teachers ….says it’s to sabotage government’s efforts

The Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Education Monitoring, Akparawa Udeme Udofia has expressed concern over what he described as “janky attitude to work” by some teachers under the state government’s employ.

Akparawa Udeme condemned outrightly some questionable behaviours displayed by teachers who show little or no commitment to their primary assignment, saying that government’s efforts in repositioning educational sector will be sabotaged by this act of cross misconduct exhibited by teachers.

He made this known during his routine school monitoring in Etinan, Mkpat Enin and Oruk Anam local government areas to ascertain the level of compliance to covid-19 guidelines and improvement by teachers in areas that corrections were given on earlier visits, but he was shocked as some schools visited Tuesday, February 16, 2021, were not responsive as at the time of visit.

Udofia bemoaned that poor attitudes to work have a huge effect on the operation of any business, as it reduced productivity and excellence.

He advised teachers found wanting on the above act to, as a matter of urgency ,turn a new leave or face serious sanction from the state ministry of education, as government cannot continue to pay people who are not in any way helping to solidified its actualization programme.

Udofia rejected, in its entirety, claims that some teachers come from far distances to work as the reason they cannot come to school everyday and on time. He stressed that any teacher who cannot find a way of getting to work on time and every working day can resign their duty and face his or her business for government to employ people who are competent and ready to work. Maintaining that such an excuse is not tenable anywhere in the world.

Hear him “These claims are not tenable. Where someone lives to work is a choice and should not be used as an excuse not to go to school daily and on time. Secondly, it will affect the student’s performance and poses a danger to the young generation.
Imagine getting to a school with 9-11 staff under the employ of the
state government around 9 am on a Tuesday and only one staff is present, this is unacceptable.”

He used the opportunity to appeal to all teaching and non-teaching staff to show commitment to their responsibilities as this will help make the society a better place.

The schools visited by the monitoring team were:
1) Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikot Eba, Etinan
2) St Paul’s Catholic School, Ikot Esen Oku, Etinan
3) Community Secondary School, Nya Odiong, Mkpat Enin
4) St Paul’s Catholic School, Ekparakwa, Oruk Anam
5) Community High School, Ekparakwa, Oruk Anam
6) St. Thaddeus Catholic School, Ikot Afanga, Oruk Anam
7) Community Secondary Grammar School, Ikot Itina, Etinan.
