Gov. Udom is Committed to Education Advancement—–Akparawa Udeme Udofia

The Special Assistant to governor Udom Emmanuel on Education Monitoring, Akparawa Udeme Udofia has said that his Boss, Mr. Udom Emmanuel is working assiduously to revamp the deplorable condition of public schools as well as repositioning the sector for efficient and quality service delivery across the state.

Akparawa Udofia accompanied by her counterpart Dr. (Mrs.) Sarah Esitikot dropped the hint during their routine monitoring of schools in Uyo and its environ recently. They said their visit was aimed at obtaining a first hand information of the various conditions under which learning was ongoing in the state.

“If you want to learn and excel, there is need to stride the educational sector to an enviable height. Akwa Ibom state government, geared towards breeding excellence is bent on providing conducive learning environment that will tackle the challenges with immediate effect. However, this can not be achieved in a situation where some of the teachers employed to teach the students are always absent from school for various unacceptable reasons”, Udofia said.

The Etinan born educationist further explained that education is the pivot on which every other profession rest, therefore, it must be given its pride of place, noting that productivity cannot be achieved under a bad condition of learning as he called on teachers to see themselves as role models of the future leaders.

The Governor’s Aide said he would not have been where he is today as an educationist if he had not learnt under strict and disciplined environment with first hand “Brains” who stopped at nothing than delivering the best even when the pay was very poor.

Akparawa Udofia, who lauded the ingenuity of the government in engaging more trained and specialized hands in the sector, noted that every child is special as there are many special people today who have achieved great feats despite their impairment.

“As I speak, plans are being made to engage well trained specialised teachers both in primary and secondary schools. The government had announced recruitment of 1000 teachers for primary and secondary school levels to cater for the needs of these special people while encouraging the pupils not to give up on themselves,”

He used the opportunity to advise students, teachers and the general public to adhere to safety guidelines and measures as laid down by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, and other front line health institutions in order to reduce the spread, saying adherence to laid down measures was the way to go.

Dr Esitikot, after due observation on students’ attitude towards learning occasioned by their teachers’ laxity, advised the students to create an hinge for themselves, take their studies seriously, respect their teachers, develop the habit of cleanliness and adhere to covid-19 guidelines while urging the teachers to put in their best towards giving the students ‘total education’.

Schools visited by the Aides include; Community Secondary School, Ikot Okubo, Offot Ukwa Secondary School, Community Secondary School, Ikot Ekpeyak Ikono, St Joseph Catholic school Ikot Ofon and Community Secondary Commercial school, Ikot Oku Ikono all in Uyo local government area.
