Gov. Emmanuel’s Aide Speaks On Importance Of Proper Educational Foundation ….Urges Principals To Ensure Adherence To Scheme of Work by Teachers

In order to ensure that all Akwa Ibom child have solid educational foundation, the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Education monitoring, Akparawa Udeme Udofia has called on teachers to develop the habit of ensuring they covered scheme of work lined out for every academic term as a way of laying proper educational Foundation for our children.

Akparawa Udofia said this during the recent tour of schools within Mkpat Enin, Eastern Obolo and Onna local government areas, when he observed during the monitoring exercise that some teachers have taken advantage of government simplicity by only rushing to class rooms for revision towards examination time when they had not even covered the scheme of work release for them by the ministry of education in that term.

He lamented the attitude of some recalcitrant teachers who take teaching only as a means of livelihood and not as a profession, explained that teachers are the Nation’s builders and for them to do it effectively, they must have passion for their services devoid of financial gratifications or inducement.

He went further to condemn in strong terms the acts of students who lie in favour of teachers maintained that such act will tantamount to academic fiasco and is to their own detriment, saying it’s a bad practice that makes the students susceptible to moral and values.

On noticing the dress code of some teachers the SA said it was a misnomer for teachers permanent or volunteers ( N-power and Youth corp members) to appear before the students dressed like tarts Instead of motivating them to want to emulate the dignity of the profession,he stress that teachers can shape the future of students they teach by creating positive impacts, most especially in their dressing and actions, he however, admonishes the teachers to imbibe discipline and shun acts of irresponsibility, by the students training that will stand the test of time.

At Community secondary school, Iko Town, the principal Dr. Ekerete Benjamin Akpan while presenting issues affecting the school, Complained about lack of man power and truancy of some teachers. Responding, the SA appealed to the teachers to take their work seriously if they want to retire successfully on the profession. “Any teacher who enjoys being recalcitrant, cheats on the students and the state government because he get paid without rendering service causing water down in the educational system which in turn breeds incompetency in our young professionals will pay for it dearly “.

Mr. Udofia really emphasized the need for cooperation between the teachers and the heads of the schools for effective management.

In almost all the schools visited the SA advised the principals to be time conscious, check out for proper dressing by teachers and the students in order to give the school a standard.

The other schools visited were Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet and Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Ebiere all in Onna local government area as well as Ikpa Ibom Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikot Ekong/Ikot Enin, Esetang High school, Ekim and Okoromita Comprehensive Secondary School in Eastern Obolo.
