…admits 757 freshers

The Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit on Friday August 19, matriculated 757 students for the 2021/2022 academic session during the 31st NCE and 4th-batch degree matriculation ceremony held at the college sports ground.
Provost of the institution Dr. Daniel Udo said the matriculation oath has stamped their legality as students of Akwa Ibom State College of Education Afaha Nsit. Under the watch of their parents, friends and relatives who they have promised to abide by rules and regulations of the institution.

Udo challenged the youngsters to concentrate on their academics and shun vices inimical to their academic development. “We will not entertain any form of sentiments, ethnic bigotry or political gimmicks that seek to derail the focus of the current administration in this College. We shall insist on getting it RIGHT.” the provost maintained.
Having being satisfied with progress recorded by the College under his watch, Udo thanked the governor who is the visitor to the institution for his support, which he said made it possible for the institution to attain enviable height.
He said “we sincerely thank His Excellency and visitor to the College, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his visionary leadership which has not only sustained the College but has also facilitated enormous infrastructural and academic growth in the College.”

He further, appreciated the wonders of the policy-making and supervisory engine of the College, whom he described as “cream of intellectuals” led by Barr. Bassey Dan Abia, the Governing Council Chairman.
In her welcome address, Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiabie who was represented by Dr. Glory Ekpo, Member of the Governing Council, congratulated the matriculants for the successful academic enrollment, urging them to take their studies seriously. She reiterates the state government commitment in taking the teacher Training institution to greater heights.
A breakdown of the 757 students spread across the Schools, shows that 51 students are admitted into School of Languages, 58 for School of Vocational & Technical Education, while School of Science had 108 students.

Others include, School of Arts and Social Science 84 students,
School of Primary Education 41, while Degree Programme had 419 students making a total of 757 new intake.
Speaking on the sideline of the event, Dr. Godwin Akpan, Akwa Ibom State Focal Person, National Social Investment Programme and Member of the Governing Council, assured that arrangements have been concluded for them to adopt the college as one of the training centers as it is done in other institution. He expressed optimism with the facilities at the College technical department.
On school feeding programme, Dr. Akpan thanked President Buhari for graciously approving an upward review in the feeding cost from N70 to 100 per child, in order to encourage the cooks and vendors and also prevent a case of malnutrition that would sabotage the successes recorded since the commencement of the programme.

“By September, we are going to have N100 per child for the school feeding. We have put in place all the things needed to address the upcoming challenges that could affect the programme, a robust monitoring and evaluation team has been set up, that means is not going to be business as usual, when we resume for new academic session.” He assured.
He commended governor Udom Emmanuel for his developmental strides in the education sector, congratulates the students on yet another milestone in their life, he explained that the future of any nation depends on the quality of education bequeathed on the citizens hence the need to provide all needed environment for learning to thrives.
