AKWA IBOM AT 36: GOVERNOR UMO ENO’S VISION FOR A THRIVING STATEHOOD

In celebration of Akwa Ibom State’s 36th Anniversary, Governor Pastor Umo Eno held a media briefing on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Government House, Uyo. During this event, he outlined his administration’s ambitious plans encapsulated in the ARISE Agenda, aimed at elevating Akwa Ibom from a low-income state to a regional leader.

Fiscal Responsibility and Rural Development

Governor Umo Eno pledged to maintain a clear distinction between recurrent and capital expenditure, ensuring that funds saved are reinvested in rural areas. His vision is simple but impactful: every N500 million saved will fund the construction of schools and hospitals in rural communities, directly benefitting the people.

He emphasized his commitment to prioritize the welfare of the 7.9 million Akwa Ibom residents over political considerations, stating, “I prefer a productive first term over an aimless second term. Satisfying the needs of our 7.9 million people is my primary focus.”

Infrastructure Maintenance and Asset Management

Addressing the issue of infrastructure, Governor Umo Eno stressed the importance of cultivating a maintenance culture among citizens. To this end, he plans to establish an asset management agency to oversee the upkeep of existing infrastructure and the construction of new ones when necessary.

Rural Development and Agricultural Initiatives

The governor unveiled an ambitious “one project per local government quarterly” program, designed to revitalize rural areas through agricultural development. He is collaborating with local government chairmen to establish model farms covering at least 50 hectares, generating revenue for rural dwellers and addressing community-specific needs.

Intervention Projects for Comprehensive Development

Governor Umo Eno’s administration will implement numerous intervention projects aimed at creating an equitable playing field across all local government areas. These initiatives include enhancing healthcare accessibility, building model schools while renovating existing ones, providing on-site living quarters for teaching staff, introducing ambulance services, and offering incentives to boost development, especially in rural communities.

Under the dynamic leadership of Governor Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom State is poised to experience transformative growth and development ultimately improving the lives of its citizens across boards.
