Akon Itam Indigenes Cries Out Over Deplorable State Of Road

…Seeks Government Urgent Intervention

The Indigenes of Akon Itam in Itu Local Government Area has expressed dissatisfaction and displeasure over the bad condition of their road adjoining Old Union Bank of Nigeria linking Mbiabong Itam, Afaha Obio Eno and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

The road which is said to have affected people’s businesses and houses in the area most especially the students from gaining access to school was abandoned by Julius Berger in 2011 during the construction of Calabar Itu Road starting from Ekim Itam Junction, Urua Ekpa, Itam Junction down to Ekom Iban Junction respectively.

Speaking to our reporter, Obong Phillip Asuquo, the Chairman Village Council of Akon Itam blamed Julius Berger for channeling the water run way to the area describing it as inhumane and an act of wickedness which has caused mayhem and gully erosion in the area living the lives and properties of Indigenes residing within the vicinity in danger.

While calling on Akwa Ibom State Government led by His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel to come to their aid, A legal luminary and solicitor of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Barr. Roland Etim called on Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Works and the Commissioner in charge of the ministry, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang, Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Barr. Ekong Sampson, The Member representing Uyo Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Bassey Albert, The Member representing Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Henry Archibong, Member representing Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, The Executive Chairman Of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Etetim, government officials and private organizations to come to their aid and rescue the community from such menace.
