The member Representing Ikono in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Hon. Asuquo Nana (Mbakara Ikono) who doubles as Chairman House committee on Agriculture have said that the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly will partner with Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) to make rice available to all Akwa Ibom household in no distant time by helping to voice out their plans in the House for them to be given adequate attention.
The lawmaker made this known when he was speaking at the maiden unveiling of Ibom Golden rice, which is cultivated and package in Ibiono Ibom to members of the public at the Idongesit Nkanga secretariat field Uyo. The Assembly man lauded the effort of Hon. EkomAbasi Akpan chairman Ibiono Ibom local government Area, for working inline with the vision of Governor Udom Emmanuel in making food sufficients to Akwa Ibom people.
He maintaind that the era of rice importation is over, urged the people to take advantage of the ongoing revolution in the agricultural sector, he use the occasion to intimate the people of difference crops cultivated in the green farm situated along airport road, explained that government have invested so much just to make sure the is food on the table of every household thereby creating wealth for the people.
The Ikono born legislator explained that he will throw his weight behind all Bills and motion which come to the house in favour of Agriculture by making prudent contributions to facilitates its assent in the House, while soliciting for RIFAN robust relationship with the law making body. Nana have assured them that with patience, commitment and cooperation from the members, the yearning for food sufficiency in the state will surely be realized.
On her part, the commissioner, ministry of Agriculture and women affairs, Dr. Glory Edet said that Agriculture have taken His rightful position in Akwa Ibom State, attributes it to the effort of Governor Udom Emmanuel resilient and purpose driven leadership.
According to her “No man can survive without agriculture, i therefore call on other local government to emulate same in Area they have competitive advantage so that we can equally compete with other State “
Earlier in his address, the Chairman Ibiono Ibom local government Hon EkomAbasi Akpan thanked the host community Ikot Esifa and Ikot Esen for making available the land for the cultivation of the rice, noted that Ibiono Ibom have also counted among the local government that cultivate rice called on the State government to assist them financially to expand and boost the cultivation.
The event was attended by members of the Rice farmers Association, RIFAN, agriculturists in the state, members of the council from Ibiono Ibom, and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
