A’ IBOM TEACHERS DARE STATE GOVERNMENT …ABANDON DUTY POST AS STUDENTS LANGUISH

In total contempt, disregards and absolute disobedient to the rule of engagement, some teachers under the Akwa Ibom State Government employ have neglected their core primary assignments and opt for their businesses at the detriment of school pupils.

These and more are the latest oddities uncovered by the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Education Monitoring, Akparawa Udeme Udofia who roved around some schools in Oron on a monitoring exercise, yesterday.

Udofia expressed disappointment that some teachers have flagrantly refused and persistently remained adamant to strictly embrace the laid down regulations mounted by the State Ministry of Education, thereby putting students in dire academic needs.

At Mainland Technical School Oron, out of thirty-three staff employed by the government, only twelve were present as at the time of the visit. The story was the same in so many other schools visited.

The Special Assistant described the attitude of management of these schools as “laissez-faire attitude.” He said their ineffectiveness has hindered government’s efforts despite huge resources committed to raising the academic precept of schools in Akwa Ibom state.

Addressing staff at Saint Andrew (RCM) Primary school Otio Oron, Udofia said “teaching career has a spirit that backs it, so if you don’t have it back out and allow those who will make good use of the opportunity , if considered ,to come in.”

He stressed that teaching is something one should do with enthusiasm, happiness and total commitment. Udofia hereby urged all in the noble profession to redouble their efforts, as a matter of importance for the future of our children.

He said this will portray teachers as models who has respect for law and order, regards for government and humanity, as well as to alleviate the plights of our children towards achieving sound and qualitative education.”

The SA while addressing the science teachers and students of Mary Hanney Secondary school Oron, who just rounded up the science quiz competitions arranged by the school authority, commended their orderly conduct and urged them to remain focused on their studies while he encouraged the teachers to continue in their good works.

Others in the delegation were Dr/ Mrs Sarah Esitikot, Special Assistant to the governor on Education monitoring; Mrs Uduak Udoette, Director of school Services; State Technical school Board amongst others.

Schools visited include; Saint Andrew RCM Primary School Otio Oron, Mainland Technical School Oron and Mary Hanney Secondary School, Oron.
