The Akwa Ibom State house of Assembly yesterday during her plenary pass a bill for a law to establish Akwa Ibom state safety commission and for related matters to the committee stage having scale through first and second reading for further legislative actions.
Giving an insight to the bill, the sponsor, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, member representing Esit Eket / Ibeno state constituency and chairman house committee on Rural Development and public utilities said the commission when establish will promote professionalism and set standards especially now that Akwa Ibom is recording economic growth as a result of industrialization policy of Governor Udom Emmanuel. He added that the agency will provide safety for both public and private construction firms incase of unforeseen circumstances there can be emergency response.
Speaking in support of the bill, Hon. Udeme Ottong of Abak State constituency says the bill will enhance productivity, because workers will be protected from all forms of dangers associated with their profession, appeal to his colleagues to consider passing the bill into law for the benefit of Akwa Ibom people. other law makers who through their weight behind the bill were Hon. Aniekan Uko of Ibesikpo Asutan and Hon. Asuquo Nana of Ikono State constituency.
On her part, Hon. Charity Ido, member for Ukanafun state constituency further explained that the bill is all about setting Standard in professional practice for businesses to thrives. Meanwhile the speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey have directed the bill to house committee on works and transport for further legislative actions , as the house adjourned its plenary to 11 September 2019 .
