The President of University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association, Akwa Ibom State Chapter – Comrade Chris Udi has called on the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi to, as a matter of urgency complete the lingering Lagos-Calabar railway. Comrade Udi made this known yesterday in Port Harcourt when he reacted to a lecture delivered by the Hon. Minister Amaechi at this year’s Founders’ Day Celebration of the University of Port Harcourt.
The President stated that due to the limited time available for this administration to end that there is an urgent need for the Minister to mobilize from both end of the project site and fire from all cylinders to ensure the project is completed and commissioned. He asserted that Niger Delta region deserve a viable and alternative source of transportation that will boost the economy of the region in particular and Nigeria in general.
The Minister of Transportation was a guest lecturer at this year’s founders’ day celebration which has as it’s theme “The Role of transportation in Nation Building.”
The event which was held at the Ebitimi Banigo Auditorium, University of Port Harcourt, played host to government officials at all levels, the University Community, The Alumni Association, leaders of the host Communities and members of the press.
